Postgraduate Student Exchange Session

Call for abstracts (Submission deadline: 17 June 2025)

INFECTION 2025 meeting will be held on 23 September 2025 in Hong Kong. To encourage exchange and enhance exposure of postgraduate student researchers, we are holding a pre-meeting postgraduate student exchange session on 22 September 2025. We now invite submission of abstracts for poster presentations of original contributions to the field of infectious diseases in the Asia-Pacific region with public health or clinical perspectives. In 2024, we had over 30 student presenters from Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Eligibility

  • Eligible presenters are current postgraduate students, or students pursuing a second professional degree as of the abstract submission date, which is 17 June 2025. You may contact us to determine your eligibility.
  • The presenter must be the first author of the submitted abstract.

Important information

  • Abstracts must be submitted via the online system by 17 June 2025 at 23:59 HKT. Late submission would not be considered. No changes to abstracts will be accepted after submission.
  • Only one submission is allowed per presenter. Only the last submission would be considered if multiple submissions were received.
  • The abstract must not have been previously published or presented before the postgraduate student exchange session (22 September 2025).
  • We provide complimentary registration for the INFECTION 2025 meeting (23 Sep 2025) to presenters whose abstracts are accepted. The registration details will be notified with the abstract result.
  • The presenter must, in person, give a 5-minute presentation in English at the postgraduate student exchange session (22 September 2025) and attend INFECTION 2025 (23 September 2025) if the abstract is accepted.
  • A presenter with outstanding poster presentation will give a 10-minute oral presentation at INFECTION 2025 (23 September 2025). The result will be notified on the day of the postgraduate student exchange session (22 September 2025).

Format

  • Abstracts must be written in English and should not exceed 500 words.
  • Abstracts should follow the format: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion.
  • Reviews, protocols, and case reports/series would not be considered.

Themes

Abstracts should be under the following themes:

  • Clinical infections and infectious diseases
  • Public health / one health / epidemiology
  • Innovations in infection detection, prevention, and control

Evaluation

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the organising committee based on the following criteria: scientific merit and originality, relevance to the conference, and clinical/public health significance. Results would be notified by 30 June 2025. Once accepted, copyright of the abstract will be transferred to the organiser.

Publication

By submitting the abstract, authors grant the organiser the right to publish the abstract in a designated journal and the meeting proceedings without further approval, the authors also confirm that the work is original and has not been published elsewhere.

Hong Kong students

Local presenters with an accepted abstract will receive a package of registration fee waiver, meals during the event, and local transport subsidy.

Overseas students

Non-local presenters with an accepted abstract will receive a package that includes a registration fee waiver, meals during the event, and shared-room single bed accommodation in a hotel for three nights (21-24 September 2025). Additionally, an extra night (24-25 September 2025) will be covered if the presenter registers for the post-meeting workshops.

Awards

Best Poster Award

A panel of judges will assess all poster presentations according to the established criteria. The presenter with the highest score will receive a cash prize of HK$2500, along with the opportunity to give oral presentation during the meeting on 23 September 2025.

Audience Favourite Award

Meeting attendees will have the chance to review posters and vote for their favourite. The poster with the most votes will receive the Audience Favourite Award during the closing ceremony of the meeting.
